There’s a striking resemblance between music videos that are being shot these days.

Music Videos are turning into a glorified Facebook updates.

Smoke, live gig, pretty girl/boy giving you the eye, being on stage, bass music, slow-mo, silly behaviour that your Mum wouldn’t approve of, taking photos on your phone, videoing the crowd… blah, blah, blah. Now, I approve of all these things because let’s face it, it’s what makes music lovers tick. We love that shit!

But hey look, it’s just like you’ve shot that video specifically to show how cool you are and how much fun you’re having… just like Facebook.

Having your fans in your videos isn’t you connecting, it’s just widening the gap between you and them. You’re up on stage and they’re down there. If you really want to connect, show that you’re human. Share your emotion, feelings, the 5pm wakeup calls, your failures, your off stage life that’s not a bed of roses. Or even better, tell us a story!

Music Video Directors, give us a different concept or even just a different way of communicating “this is an awesome track, it will get you pumped”. It’s like a massive pat on the back for doing your day job. We know bands have gigs that are awesome but do something a little more intense, different, conceptual, innovative, tell us a story we didn’t expect, show us an insight into your off stage life, how much hard work you’ve put in… anything but another “Look at us on stage and the crowd want to fuck us” video.

— Get this in your ears!
